Another Beautiful Day; Issues Ahead

Tuesday will be another day out of the Chamber of Commerce guide--sunny, dry, and pleasant. A front will move through Wednesday with a few scattered showers. We return to nice Thursday and Friday, but "Hermine has her mind" set on the Southern Appalachians this weekend--it will be the source of showers Saturday.

Voting for the 2011 RaysWeather.Com Calendar Photo Contest will begin later this week.

Forecast Discussion

It's been a nice break for forecasters for a couple weeks, our work mostly limited to temperature forecasts with dry air in place. We have to get back to business this week.

Today is still "easy peazy"--mostly clear with pleasant temperatures. A front will move through Wednesday bringing clouds and scattered showers during the daytime. A shower will be possible even before sunrise Wednesday. That front will settle to our south and east Thursday; as a result, we get a two additional pleasant days (Thursday and Friday). However, the slight chance of a shower or thundershower exists late Friday into Friday night.

This weekend, Wednesday's front will move back to the northeast carrying moisture from Tropical Storm Hermine. Hermine came ashore in northern Mexico Monday night and is moving NNW through south-central Texas today. It will continue a northerly course reaching west-central Oklahoma Wednesday night. Moisture from Hermine will move into Missouri Thursday, then turn southeast reaching the Southern Appalachians Saturday. Expect showers Saturday, mostly in the afternoon and evening.

Sunday, a front from the NW will sweep through. Most of the moisture will be to our east with Hermine's remnants; however, we have to keep the slight chance of a shower or thundershower in the forecast because of the front passing through. Monday looks dry with the front safely to our south and east.

In the tropical Atlantic besides Hermine... The remnants of Gaston are still out there--moving through the eastern Caribbean now. Two other tropical waves are much farther east, off the African coast.

Announcements

Obviously the vote Tuesday in Watauga County did not go as I would have hoped. But... respecting the process and the opinions of others is what makes our Country great. At least I hope it's still that way.
