The Avery County Children’s Collaborative (Avery RAPS) will meet on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 11:30 AM. The Avery Collaborative is a cross agency, family involved committee that is concerned about and committed to the needs of children with mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse needs and their families. All of the child and family serving agencies/programs in Avery County are invited to participate on Avery RAPS. Family members of children with mental health, developmental disabilities and or substance abuse needs who would like to use their personal experiences to improve their community’s system of care for children are encouraged to join Avery RAPS

The Watauga County Cooperative Extension Service is now taking applications for the 2009 Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Training Program. The Master Gardener Program is designed for anyone interested in horticulture topics, from the beginner to the expert. The extensive training involves 12 weeks of instruction, to be followed by a minimum of 40 hours of volunteer service by program trainees.
