...A CLUSTER OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT MCDOWELL...RUTHERFORD... POLK...EASTERN MITCHELL...NORTHWESTERN CALDWELL...AVERY...EAST CENTRAL YANCEY...WESTERN BURKE...EAST CENTRAL GREENVILLE...NORTHERN SPARTANBURG AND NORTHWESTERN CHEROKEE COUNTIES UNTIL 300 PM EDT... At 225 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated the leading edge of a cluster of thunderstorms along a line extending from 6 miles west of Newland to 13 miles east of Greenville Downtown, and moving northeast at 50 mph. Locations to be impacted include... Spartanburg, Morganton, Forest City, Marion, Rutherfordton, Spruce Pine, Columbus, Newland, Greer and Simpsonville. Wind gusts up to 50 mph and very heavy rainfall rates up to 2 inches per hour will be possible in these areas. A tornado watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT for western and the Piedmont of North Carolina...and Upstate South Carolina.
