...CONTINUED HEAVY RAINFALL THIS MORNING MAY PRODUCE FLOODING
ACROSS THE WESTERN CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST GEORGIA...
.A deep low pressure system moving east from the plains has
produced a southeasterly fetch of abundant Gulf of Mexico and
Atlantic moisture, which will slowly diminish through the day.
Very wet ground conditions, along with current elevated stream
levels will heighten the risk of flooding across the region
through the period. While some of the precipitation may fall as
an icy mix across portions of western North Carolina, especially
early this morning, enough rain could fall to produce some
flooding there as well.

The Flood Watch continues for
* portions of northeast Georgia, North Carolina, and upstate
South Carolina, including the following areas, in northeast
Georgia, Elbert and Hart. In North Carolina, Alexander, Avery,
Buncombe, Burke Mountains, Cabarrus, Caldwell Mountains,
Catawba, Cleveland, Davie, Eastern McDowell, Eastern Polk,
Gaston, Greater Burke, Greater Caldwell, Greater Rutherford,
Henderson, Iredell, Lincoln, McDowell Mountains, Mecklenburg,
Mitchell, Polk Mountains, Rowan, Rutherford Mountains,
Transylvania, Union, and Yancey. In upstate South Carolina,
Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Chester, Greater Greenville,
Greater Oconee, Greater Pickens, Greenville Mountains,
Greenwood, Laurens, Oconee Mountains, Pickens Mountains,
Spartanburg, Union, and York.

* Widespread rainfall totals of 1.5 to 2 inches have fallen
across the region since yesterday, and another 1-2 inches will
be possible across much of the western Carolinas and northeast
Georgia through late this morning.
* This heavy rainfall will impact locations that received 2 to 4
inches of rain on Monday. The ground remains saturated and
stream levels across the region are running quite high. The
additional rainfall could lead to more widespread flooding
along streams than was seen on Monday, while additional minor
flooding on some main stem rivers is also expected.

OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA...
.A deep low pressure system moving east from the Mississippi
Valley will continue to send abundant moisture into the region
atop a wedge of surface-based cold air this morning. This setup
reamins favorable for not only heavy precipitation, but also for
the development of freezing rain and sleet, especially over the
central and northern Blue Ridge mountains and the northern North
Carolina foothills. Heavy accumulations of freezing rain and sleet
could lead to power outages and hazardous travel conditions.
...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 PM EST THIS
AFTERNOON...
* WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total sleet
accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to
one half inch expected.
* WHERE...The northern mountains of North Carolina.
* WHEN...Through 1 PM EST Thursday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Power outages and tree damage are likely
due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The
hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
